Overview

There are many ways to experience Jerusalem. A special one is without doubt to explore this wonderful city from the Austrian Hospice.

The Austrian Hospice of the Holy Family is located in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem, directly on the Via Dolorosa. From here you can easily reach the holy sites of the three monotheistic religions, such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall or - beyond the Kidron Valley - the Mount of Olives.

In the midst of the pulsating life on the streets of the Old City, the Austrian Hospice offers an oasis of calm and relaxation. A unique atmosphere awaits you within its walls: history under the towering palms in the Hospice garden.

The Austrian Pilgrim Hospice in Jerusalem is the oldest Christian guesthouse in the Holy City. The guesthouse offers rooms with bath/showers for your stay; 124 beds in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem.

You have two accommodation options to choose from: the historic main building or the newly built Casa Austria.

In the main building you can stay in single, double, triple or quadruple rooms. On request there are also cots available. For a very special view experience, you can also opt for one of the three exclusive double rooms with balcony.

All rooms are spacious and stylishly furnished. Each floor can be reached by elevator and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the House.

For a particularly high level of comfort, you can also choose the "suite" option. This 70 m² unit consists of separate living and sleeping areas and has a built-in kitchen.

Casa Austria, planned since the 19th century, was completed in 2019: almost 200 years of history attend the "new" building. The modern, history-infused walls of Casa Austria allow you to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the oasis in Jerusalem in a very special way.

These slightly quieter double rooms are also equipped with air conditioning and have access to a terrace that is reserved for guests of Casa Austria. In this part of the Hospice there is also the “Superior Room” which is slightly larger and has a terrace that is only accessible from this room.

The coffee-shop of the hospice, the "Café Triest", brings the charm of Viennese coffee-house culture to the Orient. In the heart of the Arab quarter of the Old City you can enjoy your beloved melange, mocha or a small macchiato with a piece of Sachertorte or apple strudel in the time-honoured Viennese coffee-house tradition. The Café only offers original Julius Meinl coffee and the best beers from different countries; above all local and Austrian brands. The wine selection reflects the rich culture of the Holy Land.

Schnitzel and Sachertorte are also available, of course, served by local staff or by one of the young volunteers from Austria. In time-honoured fashion. After a warm cup of coffe and a piece of home-made Apfelstrudel, you can enjoy the view over Jerusalem on the roof terrace; it offers an impressive view over the Old City, the Temple Mount, and up to the Mount of Olives. On a clear day the mountains of Jordan can be seen in the distance.

The historic chapel is the spiritual focus of the house. Its present appearance dates from 1909. On request and if possible, you can also celebrate Holy Masses in an extraordinary rite in the chapel. Given that the Austrian Hospice hosts pilgrims from around the globe, Holy Masses are also celebrated in German / Latin.
