Overview

St Stephen's House is an Anglican Theological College, situated close to Magdalen Bridge on a quiet street running between the Cowley and Iffley Roads. Formerly a monastery, with buildings dating back to the 1860s, the college is a charming example of Victorian Gothic architecture.

Centrally located in East Oxford, the college is a 15-minute walk from the city centre. Located on a quiet side street, a short walk from major locations such as the O2 Academy, and the Bullingdon, as well as tourist sites such as the Botanic Garden, and Christchurch Meadows. There are two public car parks located a short distance from campus.

As a working college, this location lets its available student bedrooms for bed and breakfast stays, which, whilst not equipped to hotel standard, all bedrooms are clean and comfortable, with refreshment trays, bedding, towels, and complimentary toiletries. Due to the age of the buildings, there are no lifts available, and the entrance is by steep concrete steps.

The College provides a self-service check-in system, that provides guests flexibility and convenience on arrival. Guests are provided with contact information for staff should they need assistance during their stay, at present, there is no Porter's Lodge at this college.

My stay at St Stephens met my needs - clean, quiet and comfortable. The room I booked had a basic kitchen and ensuite. The cooked breakfast each morning was great and real filter coffee not instant - brilliant. A comfortable walk into the city past beautiful colleges, views and shops. I felt safe walking into town and back to St Stephens in the evening.

Whilst there is no porter at St. Stephen's the housekeeping staff are very responsive. I have stayed here a number of times and the experience is good for the price. Oxford accommodation can be eye wateringly expensive! My room was the most basic: no sink or desk but I was fine. I would suggest getting an en-suite room for an even better stay.

Very pleasant accommodation. College members happy to help with any questions visitors might have concerning the College. Negative: There could be better facilities for reporting faults: my table lamp did not work during the whole stay.

Nice accommodation giving you some feel of the Oxford student life. Small, but clean and well equipped rooms, conveniently located in Cowley. Very good value for money in Oxford. Thanks for the stay!

Easy to access property, room clean and functional. Good ensuite shower. No nonsense. Good location, quiet but near to sights, restaurants etc. Thank you.

Overall experience is above average to good, someone stepped on wooden corridors causing loud noises during mid-night,

Everything was great. Maybe a bit more fruits/veggies at breakfast? The rest was great.
