The Hospederia has been recently enlarged and renovated with 22 rooms (3 singles and 19 doubles) each with a private bathroom.
The origins of the monastery have been lost in the mists of legend. According to tradition, a group of Benedictine nuns settled in the monastery in 537 and remained until 834. At that time, all three hundred inhabitants were brutally martyrized by the Moors who destroyed the dwelling. After a miraculous apparition of a cross grew over the ruins of the original monastery, the institution was rebuilt in 968. This structure was also devastated by the Moors. During the 13th century, after the monastery was once again rebuilt, the Manrique family restored it and with the help of many donors, enlarged the facility.
The institution prospered between the 16th and 18th centuries. During the suppression of the religious orders (1835), the nuns continued to live in the complex although the majority of their possessions were confiscated. At the end of the 19th century, they founded a boarding school which operated until a few years ago.
