Santa Maria Novella is curiously overlooked by visitors who instead dedicate their limited time in the city to standing in line for the nearby Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo). Built between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, this Dominican church houses works by Giotto – regarded by many as the grandfather of the Renaissance – Masaccio, and Ghirlandaio amongst others, and is home to arguably the city’s most stunning frescoes in the
Tornabuoni Chapel.
