The monastery was founded in 1543. The longest period the nuns had to live elsewhere was two years. That occurred during the 19th century when they took up residence in a nearby Benedictine monastery. Until a few years ago, the sisters ran a girls’ boarding school. Due to the advancing age and the small number of the order, they now rent the school for year-round courses. In 1972, the monastery was completely rebuilt. The well is the only ancient structure that remains.
